Cruises
Every year around 1.7 million people visit Grand Cayman during a Caribbean cruise. Ships typically arrive at George Town early in the morning and depart late afternoon. However, in the case of inclement weather here, the ships anchor at Spotts, about a 10-minute drive from the capital.
There are no cruise ship docks anywhere on Grand Cayman (construction will begin in 2007). Ships anchor at sea and passengers are ferried to land by tender.
Around 30 ships visit the island each week. Tuesdays to Thursdays are the busiest days with around 7 ships berthed here on average. In exceptional circumstances the passenger count can reach 20,000 (far exceeding the self-imposed cap of 9,200 cruise visitors per day).
