The Cayman Islands is one of the world’s leading offshore financial centres and boasts over 300 banks. Most of the world’s largest banking groups have offices here including the RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, Duetsche Bank, and HSBC. There are also a number of local/regional banks such as Butterfield Bank, Cayman National, NCB (Cayman), and FirstCaribbean.

Most of the local and regional banks offer personal banking in addition to a range of offshore services such as management of captive insurance companies, investment services, and trust and fund administration. Most of the international banks are only licensed to provide offshore financial services.

Given the number of banks it is fairly obvious that not all have large numbers of employees. However many do, and there is a sizeable proportion of the workforce employed in the banking sector, and numerous job openings for expatriate workers. All jobs are based in Grand Cayman.

Given the size of the sector and range of products offered, job opportunities are diverse. Some of the most common banking vacancies filled by expatriates include:

  • Funds – Fund accountants and account managers
  • IT staff – All disciplines
  • Internal Audit – Audit managers and seniors
  • Compliance Officers
  • Financial Controllers, Assistant Financial Controllers, Financial Analysts etc.
