Stingray City
Stingray City is Grand Cayman’s most well-known and popular attraction. Frequently referred to as ‘the world’s best 12-foot dive’ it is frequented by both snorkellers and scuba divers.
Fishermen once cleaned their catch in this area and this began to attract Southern Atlantic Stingrays. Over the years the stingrays became calm and unafraid of humans. Nowadays, almost every tourist who visits Grand Cayman takes a trip to the area to feed, touch and interact with the creatures.
Stingray City is located between West Bay and Rum Point. It’s quite a distance from the shore so most visit with a watersports or dive operator. Companies running trips include:
Trips to the area are the most popular cruise ship excursion in Grand Cayman, if not the entire Caribbean. Be prepared to share the experience with (many) others. If possible try and avoid a trip Tuesday to Thursday when the greatest number of ships are in port.
