Pedro St James Castle
Constructed in 1780, Pedro St James Castle is the oldest stone structure in the Cayman Islands. It is also one of the most historically significant buildings as it was here that Caymanians met in 1831 and decided to form the first government.
The site was purchased by the Cayman Island Government in 1991 and in 1998, after a massive program of restoration, was opened to the public as a historic site. Visitors can now tour the house and gain an appreciation of early Caymanian life.
Included in the admission fee is a 20 minute multi-media presentation about the history of Pedro St. James and the Cayman Islands. Presentations start on the hour from 10 am to 4 pm.
The house is set in 8 acres of landscaped gardens and has great view of the ocean. It is also a popular venue for weddings.
