Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park
The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is one of the best attractions on Grand Cayman. It is also probably one of the least visited, mainly because of its distance from Seven Mile Beach and the major hotels.
The park was opened in 1978 by Queen Elizabeth II and named in her honour. Features of this 65 acre nature reserve include:
Visitors’ Centre
This 2 storey building is the first stop for those touring the park. There is a reception area offering information about the park, exhibits and a snack bar.
Heritage Garden
This area features a restored Caymanian House, with original furnishings, and garden.
Floral Garden
Here you’ll find 2½ acres of floral gardens, arranged by colour, and overlooked by a tea house.
Woodland Trail
The mile-long Woodland Trail winds its way through a wide variety of environments including a Buttonwood swamp. Wildlife found here includes the endangered Blue Iguana, fresh water turtles, agouti and Cuban Parrot.
The park is located in the East End, about a 25 minute drive from George Town. Other attractions in the area include the Blow Holes and the Mastic Trail.
